Pam Hamlin Passes on an Honor to the Next Generation

When Pam Hamlin, President of Arnold Boston, was named among Advertising Age’s 2008 “Women to Watch” honorees, she knew she wanted to use the opportunity to give back to the industry. Arnold strongly supports creating and cultivating the next generation of diversity programs, and created a robust cross-industry collaborative called AdColor back in 2007. As a perfect extension of Arnold’s beliefs in “total market” marketing and industry diversity initiatives, Pam partnered with the Arnold team and Advertising Age to develop a pre-event breakfast for the day of the “Women to Watch” event. At this industry-first women’s breakfast, honorees were paired with interns from the Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP), creating a unique opportunity for mentorship and a chance for the most successful women in advertising to inspire the next generation of greatness.

To provide further impetus for mentorship, Arnold sponsored the second annual Advertising Age “Women to Watch” breakfast on August 12, 2009, at Michael’s restaurant in New York City. This year’s MAIP interns and “Women to Watch” honorees, were greeted by a sassy event theme embodied in electric yellow, pink, and purple – debunking girly color stereotypes – to celebrate these women’s accomplishments in a joyful, fun way. MAIP interns sat with their “Women to Watch” mentors and had time set aside later in the day for one-on-one conversations to help the interns develop their careers within the industry. The breakfast included speakers such as Lisa Unsworth, CMO of Arnold, and Allison Arden, Publisher of Advertising Age, and boasted an honoree roster of the finest advertisers in the industry, including Danya Proud, Senior Manager of U.S. Media Relations at McDonald’s. Following the event, she said, “From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for making it such a special day. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time with the MAIP interns and take them under my wing – even just for a brief time – as so many people have done with me in my career.” Arnold looks forward to co-hosting the event again in 2010.
